About Me

I’ve always thrived at the intersection of design, technology, and community service. As the Founder and Director of AROW2, I designed, built, and rigorously field-tested a rowing machine to improve usability for wheelchair athletes, resulting in a published study and machine now used by 100s of patients at Chicago Adaptive Sports.

Published Study: Master, L. (2024). Comparing perceived usability for two wheelchair adapted rowing ergometers. RATIO, 6–16.

Having lived and studied in diverse communities, from Israel to Atlanta, my perspective is shaped by cross-cultural experiences and a deep appreciation for purposeful architecture. I’ve interned at Cornell University’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art and taken on leadership roles in initiatives promoting campus safety, cultural heritage, and community involvement. I’ve spearheaded over 30 service initiatives through ProjectServe, focusing on education, environmental stewardship, and local outreach, while working a full-time job as a line chef at a local restaurant. Currently, in addition to my academic pursuits, I row on a nationally ranked rowing team, was named 2022 Captain, and have won gold in Midwest and Southeast regattas.

Driven by my heritage and commitment to social impact, I strive to merge my skills in engineering, design, and leadership to create innovative, inclusive spaces that empower diverse communities.

Projects and Accolades:

I re-designed and built an adaptive rower from an earlier graduate-level research study at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. My design modifications included: changing the base to include a wheelchair track that utilized counterweight to improve the machine’s safety and stability; and re-designing the monitor on a flexible arm to make it more usable by patients. I raised funds through multiple organizations, and tested my machine with more than 100 pediatric spinal cord injury patients and physicians at Chicago Adaptive Sports. I followed a mixed-method study pattern to author a research paper on the comparative perceived usability of my machine versus the machine created by graduate students at British Columbia Institute of Technology. After rigorous testing on pediatric wheelchair users, I effectively determined that my machine was perceived by both patients and doctors as more usable. This machine continues to be used by wheelchair patients in the sports facility, with plans to expand to wheelchair 5ks and other events across the State.

Field Archaeologist, Harvard-Funded Excavation in Israel

With many years of hands-on experience, archaeology has been a fundamental part of my life. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to participate in two major excavations: the Leon Levy Expedition to Ashkelon and the Tel Shimron Excavations.

At the Leon Levy Expedition, I contributed to the discovery of the first-ever Philistine cemetery, a groundbreaking find that provided unprecedented insights into the burial practices and culture of the Philistines. The excavation uncovered over 150 skeletons, along with artifacts such as pottery, jewelry, and weapons, many of which had been untouched for over 3,000 years. This discovery garnered international attention, earning recognition from publications including The New York Times, National Geographic, and many others.

Intern, Cornell University’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art

I personally designed, and created with conservationists and architects, a unique Touch Table Exhibit to display the variety of mediums used by Pliny the Elder. Accolades received:

“Unifying all of these works [in the exhibit] is a central “Touch Table” where visitors can handle the materials of art” (Kate Blackwell, Cornell Chronicle, April 2023).

“Your work on the Pliny Touch Table was indispensable” - Andrew C. Weislogel, Curator of European Art, Cornell University, Letter to me dated June 3, 2023.
